When first reading about the Knowledge Sharing and Tracking Activity (KST), I was less than excited. I was nervous about being unable to attract others to view my resources. I have never worked to grow my number of "followers" on social media; I have really only used it to keep up with friends/family or as a tool to find information.
I chose to curate my resources using Pinterest because (a) I have have had a limited amount of experience with the tool but found it enjoyable during tool exploration during previous weeks, (b) Dr. Dennen suggested there would be people on the platform that would be interested in my topic of mindfulness, and (c) attribution would be easy, as Pinterest does this for you.
The first week or so I did not have many views, I posted about my board to my personal Facebook page, Twitter, and on my blog. I was prepared to make my presentation with low numbers of viewers and explain why I thought I did not attract many viewers. Then I posted to my Instagram account, the next two days my numbers increased. I continued posting links to the board on my social media pages throughout the week.
Thankfully other classmates used Pinterest as well, and I saw one mention on twitter that the Pinterest account needed to be a business account to use Pinterest's built-in Analytics. I was able to copy my board onto my new business account easily, and I am happy that I did not waste too many days with the wrong type of account. Using the class Diigo, I was able to add analytics to my blog as well, to track who visited my blog post about my Pinterest board.
I rewatched the example of the KST provided by Dr. Dennen and decided to use Canva to create some board covers and add some more resources to the board. I also created a new board that I am passionate about "self love." One of the Graphics I created on Canva had over 1,000 views within the first day!
By promoting my board and investing time to add new resources and create my own, my views increased substantially! I was surprised by how excited I was when my views and engagements increased, especially when it was something I created. I am trying to make sure I am excited for the right reasons though, the last thing I want is to care about views for the sake of increasing my number of views. But I am excited that I was able to share resources that people were able to find value in.
Overall, I have really enjoyed this experience!
P.S. Feel free to visit my board! https://pin.it/55N37nz
